Greece vs Belarus: prediction & betting odds 5 September 2025

The Matchday 5 World Cup 2026 qualifier between Greece and Belarus will take place on September 5 at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus. Greece vs. Belarus: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Greece

For the Greeks, this will be the opening match in the current World Cup qualification campaign. In the previous qualification, the team could not compete with Spain and Sweden, finishing third in their group. However, Greece managed to earn four points in matches against these rivals and suffered only two defeats in the qualifying cycle (2 wins, 4 draws). At the same time, the team kept a clean sheet only once in their last eight World Cup qualification matches. Notably, Greece last qualified for the World Cup in 2014.

  • The team has not lost in regular time in 14 of their last 16 home World Cup qualification matches (8 wins, 6 draws).
  • No more than two goals were scored in 90 minutes in 7 of Greece's last 10 home matches in this qualification.
  • Greece scored a maximum of one goal in regular time in 7 of their last 9 home matches in World Cup qualification.

Predicted lineup for Greece (4-5-1)

Odysseas Vlachodimos – Georgios Vagiannidis, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Kostas Koulierakis, Kostas Tsimikas – Christos Mouzakitis, Emmanouil Siopis – Christos Tzolis, Anastasios Bakasetas, Dimitris Pelkas – Evangelos Pavlidis.

Belarus

Belarus is also starting their campaign in the current World Cup qualifiers. The previous qualification was unsuccessful for the team, with only three points earned and a last-place finish in the group. Furthermore, Belarus is on a seven-match losing streak in World Cup qualifiers, failing to score in five of those games. Notably, Belarus has never qualified for a major tournament in their history.

  • The team has lost in regular time in their last 13 away matches in World Cup qualification.
  • Belarus did not score in the second half in 7 of their last 8 away matches in this qualification.
  • Belarus conceded at least two goals in 90 minutes in 5 of their last 7 away World Cup qualification matches.

Predicted lineup for Belarus (3-4-3)

Fyodor Lapukhov – Alexander Martynovich, Pavel Zabelin, Zakhar Volkov – Vadim Pigas, Max Ebong, Yevgeny Yablonsky, Kirill Pechenin – Pavel Sedko, Trofim Melnichenko, Valery Gromyko.

Greece vs. Belarus: Match Prediction

Even at home, Greece does not often delight their fans with a creative game and a large number of goals. In their last nine home World Cup qualification matches, the team scored more than once only twice, and in one of those cases, the opponent was Gibraltar. However, Greece can be defensively solid at home: in their last 16 home matches in this qualification, they conceded more than one goal only against Belgium, and they kept a clean sheet in nine of those games.

Belarus struggles significantly in away matches: in their last 13 away World Cup qualification games, the team has failed to earn any points. Additionally, the team shows weak attacking performance: they have not scored more than once in any of these matches, and they failed to score in eight of them.

I do not expect a high-scoring match in this encounter, so my prediction: Total under 2.5 goals

Betting tips 5 September 2025

Greece are building form and, after being promoted to League A of the UEFA Nations League, will surely aim to consolidate that momentum in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. A home match against Belarus is an excellent opportunity to collect three points.

Greece have shown noticeable progress under a new coaching staff. There was a 2:1 win at Wembley against England, followed by comprehensive wins over Slovakia (4:1) and Bulgaria (4:0) in friendlies. Against stronger opposition such as Scotland, England and Slovakia, Greece do concede, but they are assured against underdogs and frequently keep clean sheets. The Greeks have recorded six clean sheets in their last ten matches.

Belarus delivered an average UEFA Nations League campaign, winning only once against Luxembourg (1:0) and drawing four times. In friendlies the team looked decent, defeating Tajikistan (5:0), Azerbaijan (2:0) and Kazakhstan (4:1), but they suffered a 4:1 defeat against stronger opposition in Russia. The Belarusians are notably weaker than the Greeks, as they do not have players of the calibre of Vangelis Pavlidis, Christos Tzolis and Konstantinos Tsimikas.

The gulf in quality is clear. As hosts and as the favourites, Greece should control proceedings and score at least twice. Belarus may adopt a compact defensive shape, but containing the attack is unlikely.
